Nolito plays down Barca link, ready to sign new Celta deal

Spain forward Nolito has dismissed rumours linking him with a return to Barcelona and pledged to sign a new deal with Celta Vigo in the near future.

The 29-year-old, who began his career at Camp Nou, has been in scintillating form this season – scoring eight times in 15 La Liga appearances and winning call ups to Vicente del Bosque s national squad.

His performances have sparked suggestion that a return to Barcelona could be on the cards, where he played under current boss Luis Enrique during his time in charge of the club s B team.

Earlier on Tuesday, Nolito  who also played under Luis Enrique at Celta in 2013-14  was ruled out for a month with a hamstring injury but, in an interview with Marca, he insisted he would not spend the downtime looking to engine…

Diego Capel linked with Russia switch

Sporting Lisbon winger Diego Capel could be moving to the Russian Premier League in the coming days, .

While the winter transfer window has closed in most European countries, Russian clubs have more than a week left to sign new players.

And A Bola reports that Sporting Lisbon midfielder Diego Capel could be the subject of a late bid from unnamed Russian side.

The Lions are reportedly not too keen on selling the 26-year-old footballer, but they are willing to consider any serious proposal.

Diego Capel joined Sporting from Sevilla in the summer of 2011 and he had a promising start to his career in Portugal, scoring 9 goals in 52 league appearances during the first two years at the club.

The Spaniard has since lost his place in the starting line-up,…

Zorc: Aubameyang chose wrong words in Watzke row

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang chose the wrong tone and words in his row with Hans-Joachim Watzke, says Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc.

After Watzke claimed money was the reason Aubameyang left BVB to join Arsenal in January 2018, the striker hit out at the Dortmund chief executive and called him a clown in a post on Twitter.

Watzke opted not to comment on the issue at a news conference on Friday but Zorc criticised the Gabon international.

My feeling is that Auba took the wrong tone here and had the wrong choice of words, Zorc told reporters.

Hans-Joachim Watzke did not say anything bad and did not mean anything bad.

In the time Auba was with us, during four-and-a-half years, we have always stood behind him even in difficult situa…

Prediction: Manchester City win

Best Odds:

Bookmaker:

We are just six days away from the end of the Premier League season, and we still don t know who will be relegated alongside Norwich and who will qualify for both the Champions League and the Europa League. One of the games that will help us to clear things up when it comes to the relegation battle is the clash between Watford and Manchester City at Vicarage Road tomorrow night, as the Hornets go in search of a vital three points.

Watford

It s safe to say that Watford have experienced some mixed emotions across the last few weeks, with a prime example of that being their three losses on the trot against Burnley, Southampton and Chelsea. They did manage to bounce back with consecutive wins against…

Confident Cameroon arrive desperate for Japan

Cameroon touched down on Wednesday, a confident coach Paul Le Guen branding his World Cup team as one loaded with potential and the ability to make it through a tough Group E.

Cameroon open their campaign against Japan in Bloemfontein on Monday and then play Denmark five days later in Pretoria before rounding up against the Netherlands in Cape Town on June 24.

And Frenchman Le Guen said he was desperate to get Cameroon s show on the road.

We re going to compete in the World Cup with a team which has potential, he said. We ve given ourselves good working conditions and the training camps have given us a lot of hope.

I am confident, I have a feeling that the players are really on the path to achieving their goal.

The former Lyon, Rangers and PSG…

Virgil van Dijk admits Liverpool overcompensated in absence of injured stars

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk admits the team was probably guilty of trying too hard to compensate for the absence of a host of star players in the 4-1 victory over Luton.

Forwards Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah were the latest added to an absentee list, which had grown to 11 senior players and left manager Jurgen Klopp short of options, certainly of match-winners, as his bench comprised three defenders and four academy players.

The likes of Harvey Elliott and Cody Gakpo, and to a lesser extent Luis Diaz, all struggled up front in the first half, but four goals in an impressive second-half comeback after going behind in the 12th minute re-established a four-point advantage at the top of the Premier League.

Klopp’s side have won now 22 points from losing pos…

UEFA Champions League Preview: Bayern Munich v Manchester United

Manchester United bid to pull off an unlikely win at Bayern Munich on Wednesday as they continue their attempts to salvage a poor season.

The clubs have enjoyed contrasting fortunes domestically this season, with Bayern having already retained their Bundesliga title while English champions United languish sixth in the Premier League.

All-conquering UEFA Champions League holders Bayern were expected to sweep David Moyes team aside in the first leg of their quarter-final at Old Trafford last Tuesday, but a spirited display from United saw them claim a 1-1 draw to take to the Allianz Arena this week.

United have endured a tricky first campaign under Moyes, who replaced the legendary Alex Ferguson last July, with the club now mathematically certain to relinquish their Prem…

Girard calls for focus

Lille coach Rene Girard is not looking too far ahead after his side edged closer to UEFA Champions League qualification on Sunday.

The 2011 Ligue 1 champions left the Stade Velodrome with a share of the spoils after playing out a goalless draw against rivals Marseille.

Despite the draw, Lille remain in the box set to qualify for Europe s premier club competition.

Lille are third in the standings on 64 points, seven points clear of nearest rivals Saint-Etienne with four games remaining.

It is a beautiful course and it would be a shame to lose the third place in terms of our season, Girard said.

Now, as mathematically, nothing is done, we must be very focused. We still have four games to deliver 12 points to.

We will try to reap a maximum. I take a lot …

Buffon, Bonucci and Chiellini deserve Champions League medals – Dybala

Paulo Dybala believes it could finally be Juventus year to win the Champions League, insisting the club s long-serving players deserve to lift the trophy in Cardiff.

Dybala said Juventus players such as Gianluigi Buffon, Claudio Marchisio, Leonardo Bonucci, Andrea Barzagli and Giorgio Chiellini deserve to win the competition due to their long service at the club, with Juve having lost the 2015 final to Barcelona.

This could be our year – we re doing very well in all the competitions we re involved in, Dybala told the UEFA websit…

Chelsea eyeing Lukaku reunion

Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku has sparked plenty of transfer rumours as he refused the most lucrative contract offer in Everton’s history.

The Toffees had hoped that the 23-year-old would go on to sign a new five-year deal which was thought to be worth £140,000 a week and even Lukaku’s agent Mino Raiola was certain his client would extend his stay at the Goodison.

However, the big man himself has informed Everton he has no desire to extend his deal which still has two years to run.

Romelu Lukaku has thus sent the rumour mill flying and are now reporting that believe they will be able to persuade their former striker to come back to Stamford Bridge.

According to other reports , Real Madrid and Juventus are also looking at the possibility to sign the…
